Turbo session – including Power cycled to the Giro D’Italia – Details.
Today my new PowerTap wheel arrived. I set it up on the shorter (currently located on the turbo) and wasn’t really going to do a session, but hey ho, it had to be tried out. As it happens I was out last night with J and his good lady wife, and he mentioned he was watching some good YouTube videos whilst doing his turbo sessions (I’m sure he’s hard at the training on the quiet, determined to break me…) He forwarded the links last night too! So, I got the laptop in place, hooked up the HDMI cable to the big screen and off I went. It was the
Eddy Merckx – The Greatest Show on Earth (1974 Giro)
from YouTube. It lasts about an Hour and a quarter, and if very good. Commentary and music. Made doing the Turbo session so much more interesting and enjoyable. Thanks J!
During the seesion, if you look at the graphs, you will note some anomalies, which I suspect is down to me noticing after a while that the time on the Garmin was wrong, so I enabled GPS, as it seems to work out the TZ from the location. When it latched on to the position, it advanced 90 minutes, and I suspect that is why the graphs looks strange. If you change the graphs to show it by Distance rather than time, you get a better idea of the session.
The other thing I find annoying is that the HDMI cable from the MacBook doesn’t carry the sound, so I had to use the speakers in the MacBook, which when you have the noise of the Turbo going (it is a circa 1990 fan-type) is not good enough. I had to hook up the headphones (some Audio Technica sound-cancelling ones) to the MacBook so I could adequately hear the sound. (the wife is still livid that I paid that much for a wheel, JUST A WHEEL!)
