Despite challenges to training through work, a week in San Fransisco wasn’t as bad as it could have been. I did manage to get to the gym four mornings, although there was only on recumbent bike in gym, I still spent an hour so each morning on that. I also attempted a couple of short runs on the running machine, which seem not to caused any damage. Another run when I got back with no 1 Son was more painful afterwards, but only from usual “starting running” pains.
Last Sunday I went out with the boys from the close on a trip to the mountains of Surrey, although we only climbed the Col de Box Hill. I relaxed through the whole ride and managed to keep my heart rate down to an average of around 130.
This week I’ve been challenged work-wise again but did get some mid-week gym work in, and a turbo session.
Saturday had been predicted to be bad weather so I was all prepared to adjourn to the garage for more turbo, but the sun shone, so I got the Roubaix out for a spin. (actually I had planned to take the Giant out, but had lost the keys to the Kryptonite lock, subsequently found, thank goodness!)
It was a lovely day, suffered one puncture which I changed on top of Dunstable Down in the sunshine. At the tea room at Ashridge I succumbed to a massive scone loaded with cream & jam. As I approached home, the cloud cover was closing in…
Work continues to disrupt my plans, I now won’t be able to do the Tour of the Peak, as I’ll be in Cape Town at a conference. I do hope however to get out on the bike down there, as an old friend has a spare bike, and he’s not put off by cycling with me!
